Reward for recovery of items lost on the Lantern Walk

Hi All

Seems we have had one major casualty from the nights festivities and we would like your help in recovering them.

A brown paper bag containing two gipsy bibs that were used as part of the event.

They were last seen in Lynams of Laragh on the night of October 22nd.

We are happy to pay a reward for the recovery of lost items as these particular items were borrowed from Ardmore Studios and are irreplaceable. Translated as, ‘we need to find them pronto’.

Please can you put the word out. You can contact Pauline in the Brockagh centre on 0404-45600.

‘Lights in the Valley’ is born

The inaugural Glendalough Arts Network Lantern Walk event took place last Friday night, 22 October, 2010.

On the run up to the walk children from Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa had taken part in ‘make your own lantern’ workshops and prepared their “Story for the Future”.  Despite the atrocious weather, the vote from the group who were present for the formal opening ceremony in Lynhams Hotel was to ‘go for it’.

Michael Holden, one of the elders of the village, lit the first lantern which was designed by Stephen Moss from the Blue Glass Studios, and Martin Swords read out a poem, “Lights in the Valley”, he had written especially for the event.

Over 200 people from the community joined the walk, and the procession snaked its way through the Glendalough Woolen Mills and along the Green Road in an enchanted atmosphere of community spirit and wonderment.  There were dramatic and musicical surprises en route, the first being St. Kevin and the Blackbird, then on to the Leprechaun tale and the spirits of the woods.

The “Lights in the Valley” poem in full

One of the highlights of last weekends festivities was the poem written by local artist and Core Team member Martin Swords specifically for the event.

Martin has kindly given us permission to post the poem on our site in full, and you can read it here.

We are currently working out way through all the media from the event and will have regular updates over the coming days and weeks.

Lantern Workshop – Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa

Delighted to share with you pictures of our most recent Lantern making workshop in the Brockagh Centre.

Another great day where it was the turn of Senior & Juniors and 1st & 2nd classes.

There  was great imagination and the children were able to pick whether they wanted to paint, use crepe paper or contact paper to create their magical designs.  For the girls there were lots of love hearts and stars and the boys favoured ghosts and bats.

The lanterns will be collected from the school tomorrow and will be prepared over the weekend with their wire handles and candles.

Many thanks to Deborah, Martin, John, Stephen, Fiona, Bernadette & Sherron for helping out with the workshops.  Special thanks to Pauline in the school who helped us out as well and made sure that the transition between classes happened in an orderly fashion

Well done to all the pupils of Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa – you were all great
